    Climate Reporting Entities (CREs)

    The New Zealand government has introduced a new regime making climate-related disclosures mandatory for some organisations. Organisations covered (known as Climate Related Entities or CREs) will have to make annual disclosures covering governance arrangements, risk management, strategies and metrics and targets for mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts. The requirement applies to the larger publicly listed companies, big insurers, banks, non-bank deposit takers and investment managers. Read more on the FMA website.

It is split across the four thematic disclosure areas of NZ CS 1. The guidance and illustrative examples focus on disclosures that need the most explanation, including disclosures that bring a higher risk of non-compliance.

    Ethical Investment Journey Research

    This report contains findings from a qualitative study interviewing a range of New Zealanders about their experience with ethical* investments. It covers the underlying factors that drive people toward considering an ethical investment (KiwiSaver or managed fund) and their experiences of navigating the different providers and products on offer. It also provides detail on specific triggers and difficulties during people’s journey toward buying ethical investments. It covers the types of information people find most useful, challenges facing potential ethical investors, and factors providers should consider to improve people’s experience.     Climate related disclosures implementation approach

    The Financial Sector (Climate-related Disclosures and Other Matters) Amendment Bill (CRD Bill) received Royal assent on 27 October 2021. This document briefly explains the Financial Sector (Climate-related Disclosures and Other Matters) Amendment Act 2021 (the CRD legislation) and outlines the Financial Markets Authority’s (FMA) implementation approach for the CRD regime over a period of approximately 4 years, through to 2025/26. It sets out the roles and responsibilities of the various government agencies, to help industry understand ‘who is doing what’ with regard to CRD.
