Key takeaways from the CrowdStrike event survey

In October 2024, the FMA conducted a survey to see how well financial service providers were prepared for and responded to the CrowdStrike incident. This incident, caused by a problematic security software update on 19 July 2024, led to widespread IT outages globally. Despite the requirement for licensed entities to notify the FMA of such incidents, few notifications were received. To better understand the impact, the FMA asked selected entities to complete a voluntary survey.

The survey results highlight the need for strong business continuity plans and emergency procedures. Financial service providers are encouraged to review and update their plans, regardless of how much the CrowdStrike event affected them. All survey responses were anonymous, and the FMA thanks everyone who participated.
