We have received reports of a hijacked or compromised Facebook profile (“LA Thompson” or “LAThompsons Music”) being used in a cryptocurrency trading scam.
A post made on this Facebook account, which impersonated a New Zealand musician, recommended “Stephanie Robert” as a successful crypto trader and investment coach.
This “Stephanie Robert” then referred a New Zealand resident to the GlobalTradingNex trading platform. Attempts to withdraw funds or apparent trading profits were unsuccessful.
We have identified multiple websites that are part of this scam and believe more may be connected. The scammer may also change the social media accounts or platforms being used to solicit victims.
This warning will be updated as the FMA is made aware of further websites and social media accounts associated with the scam.
We recommend extreme caution when dealing with any of the social media profiles, websites or platforms listed below.
Before approaching any crypto trading platforms or exchange providers, always check the Financial Service Provider Register (FSPR) to see if they are registered to provide financial products and services to New Zealanders.
