Blu Spring Financials – Suspected recovery and advance fee scam

We recommend extreme caution when dealing with Blu Spring Financials and its associated social media profiles, websites or any of the online platforms listed below. 

We have received reports that Blu Spring Financials is involved in an advance fee and recovery scam linked to a previous cryptocurrency trading scam operated by Epic FX Trade. An individual has approached New Zealanders on Instagram, encouraging them to sign up with these entities. 

One New Zealand resident was given fake crypto currencies by Epic FX Trade as supposed investment returns.  The Epic FX Trade website has since been taken down.

The individual was then referred to Blu Spring Financials, with the claim it could help in transferring trading funds that had been recovered from Epic FX Trade.

Blu Spring Financials claims to be “a leading bank in the worldzone and a prominent international banking institution” which provides “Secured & Easy Banking Solution” and digital banking services. However, it is not operating from the address it claims, and we have found no credible evidence supporting its legitimacy.

To process this promised transfer or withdrawal of funds, the New Zealand resident was asked to pay large advance fees, including “IMF clearance” and “COT authorisation”.  Despite paying these fees, no money was ever returned or transferred.

We have identified multiple websites that are part of this scam and believe more may be connected. The scammer may also change its name, website and the social media accounts or platforms used to solicit victims. 

This warning will be updated as the FMA is made aware of other websites and social media accounts associated with the scam.

Before approaching any crypto trading platforms or exchange providers, always check the Financial Service Provider Register (FSPR) to see if they are registered to provide financial products and services to New Zealanders.

What to do if you think you have been scammed

  1. Stop all contact with the scammer and do not send any money. 

  2. Contact your bank or cryptocurrency exchange immediately, if they assisted you to transfer funds. Ask whether a transaction reversal is possible. If you sent money using another payment service provider or cryptocurrency exchange, ask them to trace the funds. 

  3. Tell a trusted relative or friend what has happened. They may help you see the situation more clearly, help you deal with the scammers, and suggest what to do next.

  4. Contact the FMA if the trading platform you encountered is not listed in this warning so we can update the warning. By reporting, you help protect others from falling for the same scam.

  5. If you are getting spam emails and text messages, report them to the Department of Internal Affairs.

  6. Contact Victim Support on 0800 842 846. They can provide free emotional and practical support and information.

  7. Contact ID Care on 0800 121 068. ID Care is a not-for-profit organisation that can provide advice and support on keeping your identity protected.

  8. Contact Netsafe NZ – toll-free on 0508 NETSAFE (0508 638723) if you have given scammers remote access to your device
