October 2023

We have now published the final guidance for keeping proper climate-related disclosure records, along with a summary of key themes and compilation of responses to the consultation (see resulting documents above). We would like to thank all submitters for their feedback.

June 2023

The Government has introduced a new regime making climate-related disclosures mandatory for certain large entities (known as Climate Reporting Entities or CREs) under Part 7A of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013. The first climate statements will be lodged by CREs from early 2024.

We are seeking input from CREs and other interested parties on proposed guidance to help reporting entities to meet their statutory obligation to keep proper climate-related disclosure records at all times.

The purpose of the proposed guidance is to set out the principles and expectations relating to creating, keeping, and maintaining proper records to provide evidence that a CRE’s climate statements comply with:

  • the legislative requirements in Part 7A of the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013
  • the reporting standard requirements set out in the Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards.
