Robert Ian South and Murray Byron Provan have both been sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Tauranga District Court.

South and Provan took hundreds of thousands of dollars ($605,000) from two vulnerable investors, who thought they were investing in a software company. Instead, the two men just spent it on themselves

Robert Ian South was found guilty of two counts of theft by a person in a special relationship, under Section 220 of the Crimes Act 1961. Murray Byron Provan was found guilty of two counts of obtaining by deception under Section 240 of the Crimes Act 1961. Both men were remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 22nd February 2019.

FMA files charges under Crimes Act.

Two men appeared yesterday in the Tauranga District Court in relation to various charges filed by the FMA under the Crimes Act.

Robert Ian South is charged with two counts of theft by a person in a special relationship, under section 220 of the Crimes Act 1961. This carries a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment.

Murray Byron Provan is charged with two counts of obtaining by deception under Section 240 of the Crimes Act 1961. This carries a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment.

Both men are next due to appear in court on June 22nd2017.
